Meme lore
What is the Black Guy Stopping meme?
Black Guy Stopping is a two-panel interruption reaction template. The lower panel shows the plaid-shirted man physically stopping the other man, making it useful for captions about rejecting an idea, preventing an action, or calling out behavior with a firm but playful pause.
Origin & history
The frames appear to come from a commercial sequence in which one man intervenes as another man approaches a woman. Online meme usage repurposed the intervention as a visual shorthand for stopping a bad plan, inappropriate comment, or impulsive action. Specific details about the original clip's earliest meme spread are unclear.
