Meme lore
What is the Scumbag Steve meme?
Scumbag Steve is a 2011 Advice Animal image macro of Blake Boston standing in a doorway in a brown patterned fitted cap, faux-fur coat, gold chain, and mustard shirt. Top text names an ordinary social situation; bottom text is the freeloading or inconsiderate move. The joke is petty everyday selfishness, not cartoon villainy.
Origin & history
This blank is Susan Boston’s ~2006 doorway photograph of Blake Boston (Millis / Medfield, Massachusetts). It is the same still used as the Advice Animal, not a later SXSW appearance. Captioners, not Blake, invented the “Steve” name in the January 2011 Reddit thread.
