Meme lore
What is the Spider Man Pointing meme?
Spider-Man Pointing (also called Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man) shows two identical Spider-Men from the 1967 cartoon accusing each other with pointed fingers. The meme highlights hypocrisy, sameness, or two parties blaming each other for the same thing.
Origin & history
The image originates from the 1967 Spider-Man animated series, specifically the episode "Double Identity" (Season 1, Episode 8). In the scene, Spider-Man discovers a villain impersonating him, and the two identical figures end up pointing at each other in mutual accusation outside an NYPD van.
The still was rediscovered as a reaction meme on Reddit and Twitter around 2018, quickly becoming a shorthand for hypocrisy, copycat behavior, and situations where two parties are essentially the same. Variations adding a third Spider-Man (the "3 Spiderman Pointing" meme) extended the joke to even more mutual blame. The format remains one of the highest-search-volume meme templates on the internet.
