Meme lore
What is the Sad Frog meme?
Sad Frog (closely related to Sad Pepe or Feels Bad Man) is a reaction image of a green cartoon frog with droopy eyes and a defeated expression. It conveys melancholy, loneliness, disappointment, or the feeling that nothing is going your way.
Origin & history
Pepe the Frog was created by artist Matt Furie for the 2005 comic Boys Club. Online communities began remixing Pepe into emotional states, and the sad, heavy-lidded version - sometimes called Feels Bad Man - became one of the most copied reaction faces on the internet.
By the mid-2010s, sad frog images circulated on Twitter, iFunny, and Facebook as standalone reaction posts without always naming Pepe. The format works for any caption about rejection, failure, loneliness, or waking up to bad news, because the frog's exaggerated sorrow reads instantly even without text.
