Meme lore
What is the I Receive You Receive Meme Template meme?
The Trade Offer meme (also called 'I Receive / You Receive') shows a young man in a blue suit with fingertips pressed together under a 'TRADE OFFER' header, with two columns for listing what each side gets. It is used for absurd, one-sided, or satirical negotiation jokes.
Origin & history
In January 2021, TikTok creator @memeulous_ posted a video mimicking a dramatic business negotiation, steepling his fingers under purple lighting with on-screen text reading 'TRADE OFFER.' The clip was screenshot and remixed into a two-column template listing what 'I receive' versus 'you receive.'
The format exploded across TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit within weeks. It became a go-to template for lopsided deals - offering nothing in return, mocking corporate mergers, negotiating with pets, or framing everyday choices as high-stakes business transactions.
