Meme lore
What is the Mother Gothel Glare meme?
The Mother Gothel Glare meme (often called Mom Glare) uses a stern close-up of Mother Gothel from Disney's Tangled staring directly at the viewer. It represents the universal 'mom look' - silent disappointment, judgment, or anger when someone knows they messed up.
Origin & history
Tangled premiered in November 2010, with Donna Murphy voicing Mother Gothel, the manipulative woman who kidnaps Rapunzel. Gothel's sharp expressions and controlling demeanor made her a standout villain, and this direct, furrowed-brow glare became a popular still for reaction memes.
Parents and teens alike recognized the expression as 'the look' - the moment you are caught without words and know you are in trouble. The meme spread on Twitter, Facebook, and parenting humor pages, often captioned with what action triggered the stare (coming home late, breaking a vase, lying about homework).
