Meme lore
What is the High Five Drowning meme?
The High Five Drowning template depicts someone signaling for help from the water while another person responds with a high five rather than a rescue. The final panels show the drowning person disappearing beneath the surface, creating a visual punchline for situations involving performative support, tone-deaf reactions, or assistance that makes things worse.
Origin & history
This appears to be a hand-drawn four-panel ocean gag built around a simple escalation: a raised hand asks for help, a second hand approaches, the hands connect in a high five, and the person sinks. Specific authorship and publication history are unclear, so the template is best described by its recurring visual format rather than assigned to a verified source.
