Meme lore
What is the Are We The Baddies? meme?
This reaction image shows a character in a sinister military-style uniform experiencing sudden doubt about the morality of his side. It is used when someone recognizes that their supposedly justified group, plan, or behavior may actually be villainous.
Origin & history
David Mitchell plays a Nazi officer in the That Mitchell and Webb Look sketch commonly known as “Are We the Baddies?” The skull emblem on the cap prompts the characters' uncomfortable realization that their side may be evil. A close-up from the scene became a reusable image macro and reaction template for moments of suspicion, hypocrisy, or belated self-awareness.
