Meme lore
What is the Apu Takes a Bullet meme?
Apu Takes a Bullet is a Simpsons image macro template built around Apu dramatically diving between a gunman and the intended target. Add labels to the threat, the overprotective person or buffer, and the person being spared the consequences.
Origin & history
This frame depicts Apu behind the Kwik-E-Mart counter as he lunges horizontally while an armed orange-haired customer aims across the store. Its exaggerated action pose became useful as a general-purpose image for a friend, tool, excuse, or intermediary that absorbs danger or consequences intended for someone else. Specific episode identification and earliest meme usage are uncertain.
