Meme lore
What is the Homer Doh meme?
The Homer D'oh meme (also called the Homer Facepalm) shows Homer Simpson slapping his forehead with a jagged speech bubble reading 'D'OH!' It captures his iconic catchphrase whenever he realizes a mistake, suffers a setback, or notices something painfully obvious too late.
Origin & history
The exclamation 'D'oh!' debuted in The Tracey Ullman Show Simpsons shorts in 1987 and carried into the full series starting in 1989. Castellaneta modeled it on actor Jimmy Finlayson's annoyed grunt from Laurel and Hardy films, stretching it into Homer's signature sound of sudden regret.
The visual of Homer smacking his forehead while shouting 'D'oh!' became a recurring gag throughout the show's decades-long run. Fans clipped the reaction into a standalone image macro that spread across forums, reaction GIFs, and meme templates as shorthand for 'I can't believe I just did that' moments.
