Meme lore
What is the Homer Simpson Muumuu GIF meme?
The Homer Simpson Muumuu meme is an animated GIF from The Simpsons showing Homer lounging in a floral muumuu while a drinking-bird toy repeatedly presses a key on his keyboard. It jokes about working from home with the absolute minimum effort - or automating your job while you relax.
Origin & history
The scene comes from 'King-Size Homer' (Season 7, Episode 7), which aired November 5, 1995. Homer deliberately gains over 60 pounds to qualify for disability and work remotely monitoring a nuclear plant safety console - mostly by keeping a single key pressed whenever a warning light blinks.
The drinking-bird gag became one of the episode's most quoted moments. Decades later, as remote work exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic, fans revived the clip as a GIF meme on Twitter, Reddit, and Slack channels to joke about lazy WFH habits, automation scripts, and doing the bare minimum while appearing productive.
