Meme lore
What is the Empty Plate meme?
Empty Plate is a stock overhead of a ridged white dinner plate on dark oak, fork on the left and knife on the right. There is no diner in frame. The joke is the blank: an expected meal, raise, or payoff that never shows up. Not Lisa Simpson’s dinner and not a restaurant portrait.
Origin & history
Stock overhead place setting; photographer and first meme use are unclear. This PNG is a 250×166 JPEG of a concentric-ridge plate with fork left and knife right. Not Lisa Simpson’s Dinner (Know Your Meme).
