Meme lore
What is the Second Breakfast meme?
The Second Breakfast template pairs Merry’s skeptical reaction with Pippin’s cheerful appetite. It is used to joke about wanting another serving, repeat of an activity, or additional reward immediately after already getting one.
Origin & history
This template uses a still of Dominic Monaghan as Merry and Billy Boyd as Pippin from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The scene’s memorable discussion of hobbits’ multiple daily meals, especially second breakfast, gave the image its established online caption format. The exact date and path of its broader meme circulation are unclear.
