Meme lore
What is the Standing Kitten meme?
Standing Kitten is a cute reaction image commonly associated with the “Polite Cat” or “Please Cat” format. The kitten’s upright, humanlike posture and wide-eyed expression suggest a polite request, desperate hope, patient waiting, or innocent disbelief. It is especially effective when the caption treats an ordinary want as an earnest appeal.
Origin & history
This is likely a candid indoor photograph of a very young orange tabby kitten standing temporarily on its hind legs, with its front paws held close to its chest. The pale floor, centered full-body composition, and faint lower-right marking suggest the image may have circulated as a reposted or compressed social-media picture rather than an officially credited stock photograph. Although similar upright-kitten images and stock photos exist, available search results do not securely link this exact image to a named cat, photographer, account, or original publication. Its meme identity is therefore better supported by its later “polite begging kitten” usage than by a confirmed origin story.
