Meme lore
What is the Drama Llama meme?
The Drama Llama meme shows a llama with an exaggerated, theatrical expression - often mid-chew or mid-spit - used to call out someone who overreacts or stirs up unnecessary conflict. The phrase 'drama llama' rhymes and became shorthand for a person who thrives on gossip and chaos.
Origin & history
The rhyming phrase 'drama llama' appeared in online forums and LiveJournal communities in the early 2000s as a playful insult for people who created or escalated interpersonal conflict. Llama photos - especially ones showing wide-eyed or spitting llamas - were paired with the label on Tumblr around 2010–2012.
The meme spread through Facebook groups, school humor, and workplace chat as a lighthearted way to tell someone to calm down. It remains popular in friend-group chats and social media posts about gossip, breakups, and group-project meltdowns.
