Meme lore
What is the Afraid To Ask Andy meme?
Afraid To Ask Andy is a reaction template featuring Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation looking hesitant and confused. It is commonly paired with a setup about an unfamiliar subject and a punchline implying that the speaker is too embarrassed to ask what it means.
Origin & history
This template uses a television still of Chris Pratt as Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation. Its awkward, uncertain expression lends itself to jokes about encountering a term, trend, or piece of knowledge that everyone else appears to understand. Online versions vary between top-and-bottom captions and longer text that explicitly uses the phrase “too afraid to ask.”
