Meme lore
What is the Goodbye Old Friend meme?
Goodbye Old Friend uses a still of Obi-Wan Kenobi looking back with a restrained, melancholy expression. The frame turns an ordinary loss, forced replacement, or end of an era into a solemn Star Wars farewell.
Origin & history
In Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan leaves his former apprentice after the duel on Mustafar and gives him a final, sad farewell. Caption macros use the still to make a game ending, a discarded device, or any unwanted goodbye feel as emotionally final as a Star Wars breakup.
