Prison Mike first appeared in The Office (US) Season 3, Episode 9, "The Convict," which originally aired on November 30, 2006. After learning an employee is an ex-convict, Michael dons a purple bandana and invents the Prison Mike persona to lecture the staff about how brutal prison life supposedly was.
Clips of Michael's over-the-top threats and factual errors - including claiming Dementors guard the prison - spread widely on YouTube and Tumblr in the 2010s. The screenshot of his bandana-and-scowl look became a reaction image for anyone pretending to be hardened by experiences that were clearly mundane or exaggerated.
