What is the Woman Yelling At A Cat meme?
Woman Yelling At A Cat is a two-panel format pairing an emotionally intense argument on the left with Smudge, a white cat looking confused or unimpressed on the right. Captions commonly frame the panels as two sides of an argument, a complaint versus an indifferent response, or an overreaction versus calm disbelief.
How the joke works: Put the setup or aggrieved statement in the top caption and the contrasting response, punchline, or indifferent counterpoint in the bottom caption.
Where it comes from
The template combines a televised reality-show reaction shot of Taylor Armstrong pointing and shouting with a separate photograph of Smudge the cat sitting at a restaurant table. The juxtaposition became a widely recognized internet meme format after the two images were paired and circulated online; the precise first edit is unclear.
When to use it
- A frustrated person explaining a simple problem to someone who is not listening
- A serious complaint versus an absurdly calm response
- Overreacting to a minor inconvenience
- Two sides of an online argument
- A complicated explanation met with blank confusion
