Meme lore
What is the So You Have Chosen Death meme?
This reaction template shows Saruman responding with ominous finality after someone chooses an obviously bad or dangerous option. Add a short description of the decision at the top, while the original movie subtitle supplies the punchline at the bottom.
Origin & history
The still is from Peter Jackson’s 2001 film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, in which Saruman confronts Gandalf after Gandalf refuses to join him. The recognizable meme version retains the film subtitle, “So you have chosen... death.” Online users typically place a person’s choice or doomed plan above the subtitle to turn the exchange into a darkly humorous reaction.
