Meme lore
What is the Confused Gandalf meme?
Confused Gandalf is a three-panel reaction template featuring Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey. The escalating expressions work well for jokes where a simple situation becomes progressively harder to understand.
Origin & history
This template uses three stacked stills of Gandalf the Grey from the Lord of the Rings films, arranged from a more distant puzzled look to an intense close-up. Its meme format relies on visual escalation: each caption can introduce another layer of confusion, contradiction, or unnecessary complexity.
