Meme lore
What is the Skyrim Cheese Room meme?
The Skyrim Cheese Room meme shows a room in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim completely flooded with hundreds of dropped cheese wheels. It captures the absurd hoarding behavior RPG players indulge in - collecting every item even when it serves no purpose.
Origin & history
Skyrim's open-world design lets players pick up and drop nearly any object, and cheese wheels became an early favorite for stress-testing the game's physics. Players began filling rooms, caves, and NPC homes with massive piles of cheese as a running joke within the community.
Screenshots of cheese-filled rooms spread on Reddit's r/skyrim, YouTube, and gaming forums throughout the 2010s. The meme became shorthand for compulsive looting, inventory hoarding, and the gap between a game's serious fantasy tone and the ridiculous things players actually do.
