Meme lore
What is the Cute Cat Hehe and Not Hehe meme?
This format pairs two close-up kitten reactions on the left with two blank white caption panels on the right. The upper kitten has a bright, wide-eyed expression and carries the baked label “hehe”; the lower kitten looks deflated and is labeled “not hehe.” It turns a small pleasure, expectation, or apparent win into the specific detail that ruins it.
Origin & history
The template combines two close-up crops of the same kitten, with the expression shifting from eager and wide-eyed to disappointed. The editor-added labels establish its core grammar: a favorable moment in the upper row followed by the detail that makes it disappointing in the lower row. The source of the underlying kitten photograph and this exact edit has not been reliably verified.
