Meme lore
What is the Old Economy Steve meme?
Old Economy Steve is a classic Advice Animal showing a young man in a 1970s-style portrait. It frames generational and economic hypocrisy: the top caption names an advantage, complaint, or old-world circumstance, and the bottom caption reveals the contradiction, privilege, or double standard.
Origin & history
The template uses a vintage portrait of a young man in a blue shirt. Captioners turned the period look into a character representing an earlier economic environment, then paired it with jokes about the benefits available in that era and the contradictions in how those benefits are remembered or defended.
