Meme lore
What is the Be Like Bill meme?
Be Like Bill is a minimalist advice meme featuring a simple stick figure named Bill wearing a gray beanie. Captions typically describe Bill making a sensible, low-drama choice and conclude with a variation of “Bill is smart. Be like Bill.”
Origin & history
The image uses a simple stick-figure illustration with a photographic gray pom-pom beanie composited onto the character. Its exact creator and first publication are unclear, but the recurring “Bill is smart. Be like Bill.” wording established the template’s recognizable structure and helped it circulate broadly as an advice meme.
