Meme lore
What is the Arrow Over Head Understanding Progression meme?
This three-panel stick-figure format visualizes increasing levels of understanding. Add a concept or situation to each stage, with the first going completely over someone’s head, the second nearly landing, and the third finally making sense.
Origin & history
The image uses a sparse hand-drawn cartoon style: a striped-shirt figure appears beneath an arrow in three increasingly direct positions. Its precise source and date are unclear, but the visual metaphor of an idea passing over someone’s head is widely used in internet humor and reaction memes.
