Meme lore
What is the Wolf Of Wall Street meme?
The Wolf of Wall Street meme shows Leonardo DiCaprio in a tuxedo raising a champagne glass with a smug, celebratory grin. Though the still is from The Great Gatsby (2013), it is widely labeled as a Wolf of Wall Street meme and used to sarcastically toast questionable wins, petty achievements, or morally dubious success.
Origin & history
The frame comes from Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, where DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby raises a glass amid fireworks - not from Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). Internet users conflated the two DiCaprio excess-and-wealth roles, and the mislabeled screenshot spread anyway because it captures the same energy of lavish, unearned celebration.
By the mid-2010s the image was a staple reaction for ironic toasts: finishing homework at 3 a.m., getting away with something shady, or celebrating a minor win like finding parking. Captions usually follow 'cheers to...' or 'here's to...' structure, pairing the glamorous toast with something absurdly small or ethically questionable.
