Meme lore
What is the Linux Users meme?
The Linux Users meme shows people wearing white t-shirts printed with the Arch Linux logo and the phrase 'btw I use Arch.' It satirizes the stereotype that Arch Linux users compulsively announce their distro in unrelated conversations, whether proudly or ironically.
Origin & history
Arch Linux is known for a manual, DIY installation process that enthusiasts treat as a badge of honor. Starting around the mid-2010s, tech communities on Reddit, 4chan, and Hacker News began mocking users who inserted 'I use Arch btw' into unrelated threads as a non sequitur flex.
The meme spread through r/linuxmasterrace, Programmer Humor, and developer Twitter, often in 'Nobody: / Linux users:' caption formats. T-shirt and sticker versions of the Arch logo with the phrase turned the joke into wearable identity signaling - used both sincerely by fans and ironically by the community at large.
