Meme lore
What is the Party Parrot meme?
Party Parrot (also called Conga Parrot) is a looping animated parrot emoji that bobs and sways like it is dancing at a celebration. Born in Slack workplace chat, it signals hype, approval, or let's go energy in tech and internet culture.
Origin & history
Designer Suse Bauer created the original Party Parrot animation for the Slack workspace at Suse Studio in 2015, inspired by a real parrot named Nitro. The emoji was uploaded to Slack's custom emoji system and quickly went viral across other companies' workspaces.
Developers copied and remixed versions (Conga Parrot, Fast Parrot, Coffee Parrot) on sites like party-parrot.com and GitHub. What began as an inside joke for designers became a universal internet shorthand for celebration - especially when someone ships code, closes a deal, or announces good news in a chat thread.
