Meme lore
What is the Grant Gustin Grave meme?
Grant Gustin Grave (also called Graveyard Guy Peace Sign) is a meme using a photo of actor Grant Gustin - star of The CW's The Flash - cheerfully posing with a peace sign next to a gravestone on set. The joke is ironically mourning the 'death' of a trend, product, or idea while looking unbothered and upbeat about it.
Origin & history
The image comes from behind-the-scenes or promotional photography for The CW's Arrowverse crossover events, where Grant Gustin filmed scenes involving grave visitations as Barry Allen. A candid shot of him smiling and flashing a peace sign beside a tombstone spread on Twitter and Reddit around 2019–2020.
Meme makers quickly adopted the format to mark the ironic 'death' of anything - a discontinued product, a cancelled show, a dead meme format, or a trend that finally ended. The cheerful pose next to a gravestone creates deliberate tonal whiplash: you are mourning something, but you clearly do not care. It became especially popular in TV and gaming fandoms for RIP posts that are more celebration than grief.
