Meme lore
What is the Luke Skywalker No meme?
The Luke Skywalker No meme is a two-panel image from The Empire Strikes Back showing Darth Vader reaching out above and Luke screaming in denial below after learning Vader is his father. It captures shock, refusal to accept bad news, or dramatic overreaction to a revelation.
Origin & history
In The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Luke Skywalker confronts Darth Vader on Cloud City after their lightsaber duel. Vader severs Luke's hand and reveals he is Luke's father - a twist that shocked audiences worldwide. Luke's screaming denial became as famous as Vader's line, though many misquote it as 'Luke, I am your father.'
The two-panel format spread online as a reaction template for devastating news, unwanted truths, and humorous overreactions to minor disappointments. Star Wars fans use it for plot-twist jokes, while general meme culture applies it whenever someone refuses to accept an obvious or painful fact.
