Meme lore
What is the But You Have Heard Of Me meme?
This two-panel template pairs a dismissive criticism or insult with Captain Jack Sparrow's smug implication that being known still counts as a success. It is commonly used for jokes about having a bad reputation, failing conspicuously, or becoming famous for the wrong reason.
Origin & history
The image combines two shots from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, with a naval officer criticizing Jack Sparrow in the upper frame and Jack responding in the lower frame. The familiar implied exchange is commonly captioned as an insult followed by “But you have heard of me.”
