Meme lore
What is the Train Hitting School Bus meme?
Train Hitting School Bus is an object-labeling meme in which the train and school bus stand for opposing people, ideas, systems, or plans. The train usually represents the stronger, more persistent, or unavoidable force, while the bus represents something overwhelmed, disrupted, or abruptly destroyed. Captions are typically placed on or near the train and bus rather than written as conventional top-and-bottom narration.
Origin & history
The underlying image comes from a short video sequence showing a freight locomotive striking a yellow school bus at a railroad crossing. The original upload is commonly attributed to infinitefx and dated May 17, 2007, although the exact filming location, production context, and earliest circulation outside the upload are not firmly established. Before becoming a standardized meme, frames from the footage appeared in GIFs and customized edits. The modern template is generally used as an object-labeling format, preserving the visual sequence of an intact bus followed by the train’s unavoidable impact.
