Meme lore
What is the Guy With Sand Despair meme?
This reaction template uses a heavily edited beach photograph in which the same man appears several times in increasingly dramatic poses, centered around sand slipping from his hand. Add a top line naming what is being lost and an optional bottom line for the consequence, reaction, or punchline.
Origin & history
The template appears to be a composite beach image featuring repeated copies of the same man layered into a melodramatic scene. It became recognizable through reposts and captioned versions that use the sand as a metaphor for something slipping away. Specific authorship and first-publication details are uncertain.
