What is the Every Day I Wake Up meme?
The Every Day I Wake Up template uses three escalating scenes from Marriage Story: a calm or distressed entrance, a wall punch, and an emotional breakdown. Add a subject, problem, or recurring daily trigger to the covered caption area to turn the sequence into a relatable joke about instant frustration.
How the joke works: One caption naming the mundane morning trigger; panels escalate to breakdown.
Where it comes from
The image comes from a scene in Noah Baumbach’s 2019 film Marriage Story, starring Adam Driver as Charlie Barber. Meme adaptations commonly pair the film stills with “Every day I wake up” and a final “[crying]” caption, leaving the middle caption area for a daily stressor or punchline. The precise origin of this edited template is unclear.
