Meme lore
What is the Dude With Sign meme?
Dude With Sign is a protest-style meme template in which the blank cardboard sign is filled with a short complaint, opinion, announcement, or relatable observation. The image works best when the text sounds serious enough for a public protest but trivial or highly relatable in subject.
Origin & history
This template draws on photographs of people holding handwritten protest signs in public places. The widely recognized Dude With Sign format became associated with a man posing with cardboard signs in urban settings, but the exact provenance of the supplied photograph is unclear and it may be a related or independent image from the same visual tradition.
