Meme lore
What is the Distracted Boyfriend meme?
The Distracted Boyfriend template uses three people to represent a familiar commitment, a tempting alternative, and the person or consequence reacting to the distraction. Labels are usually placed over the boyfriend, the woman he notices, and his girlfriend.
Origin & history
The underlying photograph is part of a stock-photo set depicting a couple walking while the man looks at another woman. Meme users later repurposed the composition as a simple visual metaphor for abandoning one option for a more tempting alternative while someone affected by the choice looks on. Exact details of the meme's earliest spread are unclear.
