Meme lore
What is the What If You Wanted to Go to Heaven meme?
What If You Wanted to Go to Heaven (also called But God Said) is a 2×2 meme. The left column shows the same person pointing at the viewer, then reacting in shock; the top-right panel shows a heavenly cloud portal with the baked desire “Wanted to go to Heaven”; the bottom-right panel is a blank white square for God’s response. Put the denial, rule, error message, screenshot, or ironic condition in that final panel.
Origin & history
The collage pairs two selfie-style reaction photos of a young man (pointing, then shocked with a finger raised) with a stock-style image of light breaking through clouds as “Heaven,” plus a blank white final panel. Baked captions establish the fixed grammar: “What if You” / “Wanted to go to Heaven” / “But god said” / [custom reply]. Available catalog and listing evidence support the format’s identity as an internet image macro, not a confirmed named creator or dated first post.
