What is the Waiting Skeleton meme?
This dark-humor reaction template depicts a human skeleton that appears to have been waiting on a park bench for an impossibly long time. Add a short setup in the top caption and the delayed outcome, absent person, or still-unfulfilled promise in the bottom caption.
How the joke works: Put the promised event or expected waiting situation in the top caption, then put the impossibly delayed result or punchline in the bottom caption.
Where it comes from
The template uses a photograph of a human skeleton posed on an outdoor wooden bench. Its meme meaning comes from the visual exaggeration: an ordinary wait has lasted until the person is reduced to bones. The exact source and spread history of this particular photograph are unclear.
When to use it
- Waiting for someone who said they would be there in five minutes
- A software update, game, or sequel that keeps being delayed
- Waiting for a text reply that never arrives
