Meme lore
What is the Thinking Gorilla meme?
The Thinking Gorilla template shows a gorilla posed with its chin on its hand, visually resembling a classic thinker statue. Captions typically present an oddly specific question, exaggerated realization, or ridiculous observation as if it were profound.
Origin & history
This template appears to be a photographic image of a gorilla in a contemplative pose, later repurposed in meme culture for philosophical or overthinking captions. Its resemblance to the pose of Rodin's The Thinker helped establish its association with deep thoughts, though the precise original source and earliest meme use are unclear.
