Meme lore
What is the Steve Buscemi Fellow Kids meme?
Steve Buscemi Fellow Kids (from the line 'How do you do, fellow kids?') shows Buscemi dressed as an undercover teenager - red beanie, 'MUSIC BAND' shirt, skateboard over his shoulder - in a school hallway. It mocks brands, politicians, or adults who try painfully hard to seem young and relatable.
Origin & history
The still comes from NBC's 30 Rock, Season 6, Episode 8, 'The Tuxedo Begins,' which aired on February 16, 2012. Steve Buscemi plays private investigator Lenny Wosniak, who in a flashback describes infiltrating a high school while clearly far too old to pass as a student.
He wears a red beanie, a generic 'MUSIC BAND' shirt styled like a rock logo, and carries a sticker-covered skateboard before greeting real teenagers with 'How do you do, fellow kids?' The absurd gap between his appearance and his target audience made the scene an instant reference for out-of-touch marketing, politics, and corporate social media.
