Meme lore
What is the Execute Order 66 meme?
Execute Order 66 is a Star Wars meme based on the Revenge of the Sith scene where Emperor Palpatine commands clone troopers to turn on and kill the Jedi. In meme form, the dramatic order is repurposed as a call to action for betrayal, mass chaos, or unleashing something that was waiting for the right moment.
Origin & history
Order 66 first appeared in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005), when Darth Sidious tells Commander Cody, 'Commander Cody, the time has come. Execute Order 66.' The hidden protocol causes clone troopers across the galaxy to turn on their Jedi generals, launching the Great Jedi Purge. The Clone Wars animated series later expanded the lore around the order's creation.
Online, the phrase became a meme among Star Wars fans in the mid-2010s, used to humorously command followers to attack a target, start a party when the boss leaves, or activate any long-planned scheme. It spread through Reddit, Twitter, and YouTube communities, often paired with images of Palpatine or clone troopers. Bodybuilder Jason Genova also popularized 'Order 66' as slang for sending fans after someone on social media.
