Meme lore
What is the Slap That Button meme?
Slap That Button (also called the Nut Button meme) shows a hand hovering over or forcefully slapping a large blue button. The joke is the irresistible urge to press a button for something tempting, stupid, or morally questionable - even when you know you probably should not.
Origin & history
The core image of a hand pressing a large blue button traces back to Tumblr posts in 2015, where users edited a photo of a hand over a button labeled "like" into increasingly absurd captions. By 2016, the format had become the "nut button" meme - a shorthand for impulsive, often ill-advised decisions - and spread across Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram.
YouTuber Kralice popularized an exaggerated "slap that button" reaction in a 2017 gaming video, pairing the image with over-the-top enthusiasm for pressing buttons. The template now appears in countless contexts: voting polls, subscribing to channels, accepting terrible trade-offs, or admitting you would absolutely choose the wrong option if given the chance.
