Meme lore
What is the PPAP Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen meme?
The PPAP template uses repeated images of Japanese performer Piko-Taro in a flashy gold outfit, posing and gesturing with exaggerated enthusiasm. It works best for jokes about combining unrelated things, celebrating a ridiculous idea, or treating a minor event like a major musical triumph.
Origin & history
PPAP originated as a short comedic performance by Piko-Taro, the stage persona of Japanese comedian and musician Daimaou Kosaka. Its repetitive lyrics, simple object-combination premise, distinctive gold costume, and expressive choreography made it especially adaptable to internet memes. This catalog image is a vertically arranged collage of stills from that performance, with no baked-in wording.
