Meme lore
What is the It's Me Again, Margaret meme?
It's Me Again, Margaret shows Ray Stevens as the unwanted caller from the comedy song of the same name. The top caption delivers the caller's recognizable reappearance or opening question; the bottom caption reveals the oddly persistent request, reminder, or escalation. The humor depends on making the caller much too familiar and much too committed to a small, specific concern.
Origin & history
The image depicts country-comedy performer Ray Stevens in the vintage telephone-booth persona associated with his 1984 recording of "It's Me Again, Margaret," a Paul Craft song about an obscene phone caller. The exact photographer and first publication of this black-and-white still are unclear; it appears to be promotional or performance imagery from the song's era.
