Meme lore
What is the Gordon Ramsay Disgusted meme?
Gordon Ramsay Disgusted is a reaction meme using a photo of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay looking revolted, usually while inspecting food on Hell's Kitchen or Kitchen Nightmares. It expresses strong disapproval or disgust at something poorly made - food, code, design, or any half-baked effort.
Origin & history
Gordon Ramsay built his television persona on blunt criticism of bad cooking across shows like Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, and MasterChef. Clips and stills of him spitting out food, calling dishes 'raw' or 'disgusting,' and physically recoiling from plates were widely shared on YouTube and social media throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
Internet users began repurposing Ramsay's most exaggerated disgusted reactions as image macros unrelated to food - bad code commits, ugly UI designs, terrible takes, or failed projects all became fair game. The meme works because Ramsay's expression is universally readable: something is so bad it is physically offensive. It pairs naturally with captions like 'What is this?' or 'It's RAW!' even when the subject is not cooking.
