Meme lore
What is the Cool Story Bro meme?
Cool Story Bro is a sarcastic dismissal format used to mock boring, exaggerated, self-important, or unwanted stories. The character’s enthusiastic grin and thumbs-up contrast with the phrase’s insincere, dismissive tone.
Origin & history
The template appears to come from comic-book-style Hercules artwork showing a muscular, bearded hero with a club and an exaggerated thumbs-up. Online users paired the image with “COOL STORY, BRO,” turning the enthusiastic gesture into a deliberately sarcastic response. The precise source artist, publication, and earliest meme circulation are unclear.
