Meme lore
What is the Bananas And Rice Girl Mugshot meme?
This is a real booking-style photograph associated with Nasra Ahmed, who became known online as the “Bananas and Rice Girl” after a January 2026 video about her reported encounter with ICE agents circulated widely. The image was later shared as an arrest or booking photograph after reports that Ahmed was arrested in Minneapolis in connection with allegations involving federal officers. As a meme template, the officer’s highly legible “POLICE HSI” label and the subject’s solemn pose create a visual shorthand for being investigated, questioned, detained, or unexpectedly treated like a suspect. Origin & history
Search-grounded references identify the woman as Nasra Ahmed, a Somali-American woman from Minnesota whose January 2026 remarks about being Somali-American and “bananas and rice” became a viral meme. News reports subsequently described her arrest in Minneapolis during anti-ICE protests, while online meme databases cataloged this image as her mugshot or booking photograph. The visible “POLICE HSI” jacket indicates an officer associated with Homeland Security Investigations, a component of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but the image itself does not establish the exact booking location, date, photographer, or circumstances of the photograph. The reported charges and arrest allegations should not be treated as proof of guilt.
