Meme lore
What is the Scout Opening the Fridge GIF meme?
A Team Fortress 2 Scout reaction template depicting him opening a refrigerator and finding something underwhelming or unexpected. It works especially well for jokes about checking again despite knowing nothing has changed, hoping for better options, or reacting to disappointing results.
Origin & history
The character is the Scout from Valve’s Team Fortress 2, and the recognizable template is distributed online under names such as “Scout opening the fridge” and “Scout Fridge.” It appears to derive from a short animated or rendered TF2 scene showing Scout beside an open refrigerator; GIF and meme-template pages document the format’s circulation by roughly 2021–2022. The precise source video, original creator, and earliest meme upload could not be verified from reliable search results, so the template’s broader origin should remain described as uncertain rather than attributed to a specific official Team Fortress 2 short.
