Meme lore
What is the 500 Cigarettes GIF meme?
500 Cigarettes is a reaction GIF template featuring a stern, startled Klingon-like Star Trek character in a blue uniform. Top and bottom captions can frame an absurd situation, escalating realization, or exaggerated reaction.
Origin & history
The image appears to come from a Star Trek television scene featuring a Klingon-like character in a blue uniform. It is commonly cataloged online as the “500 Cigarettes” GIF, but the precise source episode and original caption context are uncertain. The format works because a serious, intense close-up contrasts with deliberately mundane or ridiculous caption text.
